Fiona Paxton – ABURY Collection

"I spent a month travelling around India and stayed with some Indian families who owned textile factories. It was amazing and the love affair with India began there."

Fiona Paxton

Fiona Paxton was founded October 2008 in Stoke Newington, London. The first collection was stocked at Barney’s in New York City and not long after in the hands of her many well known celebrities followers. Each piece is handmade with embroidery and craft techniques that are threatened of being lost with the tragic uprising of fast fashion. Fiona aims to design accessories that are effortless to wear yet making a statement to inspire change. The brand’s casual and bohemian aesthetic provides a powerful yet colorful connection to fashion and social responsibility.
Production predominantly takes place in India, visiting twice a year to design new collections, while also keeping a human touch.

"I have to cocoon myself a little when I go to the factory so I don’t get swept along in the exuberance of colour.

Interview

1. At ABURY we believe that “hands tell stories“. What do your hands tell about you?
Oh,that I use my hands to make things all of the time - I am always embarrassed when i go for a manicure!
“I had travelled to India on a scholarship I won whilst studying for my degree in textile design when I was 20."
2. The Soulié yoga mat slings are produced in India. What differentiates India from other cultures?
The riot of colour and pattern is other worldly compared to the UK-and I have to cocoon myself a little when I go to the factory so I don’t get swept along in the exuberance of colour. I had travelled to India on a scholarship I won whilst studying for my degree in textile design when I was 20. I had always loved Indian textiles. I spent a month travelling around India and stayed with some Indian families who owned textile factories. It was amazing and the love affair with India began there. The owner of the unit I work with now jokes that I have travelled more of India than he has!
"It is a lovely fusion of traditional technique with modern patterning"
3. What makes the Soulié products in our selection special in your opinion?
Gia is my favourite is a signature piece that forms the basis of the Fiona Paxton brand. It is a lovely fusion of traditional technique with modern patterning.
