Adam French – Making it Fashionable to Care

 
Difficulty often inspires and I had a lot of help in many ways to channel that into my work.

Adam French

Adam French lives on a small farm in rural Manitoba, Canada. Prior to shifting his focus to creative arts and fashion, he worked as a information technology specialist across Canada.
In 2010, Adam returned home to begin developing his own leather fashion accessories brand as Adan Ballou.
 
This process of discovery prompted me to consider the things we all have in common, the fundamentals of daily life. This consideration was the catalyst of my collection.

1. What does it mean to you to be a selected designer at ABURY?
There’s a lot of personal affirmation involved. It means that the things I see as valuable in my work are visible to others as well. It means to me that I should keep doing what I'm doing.

2. Tell us about how it was to work with the communities?
Working in Marrakesh involved a lot of adaptation. Aligning the goals I had in mind with the resources I had available was challenging, as well as social norms and customs. Difficulty often inspires; and I had a lot of help in many ways to channel that into my work.

3. What inspired you to design your collection?
Upon my arrival, I found many things that, on their surface seemed quite familiar. Over time, I discovered many features and elements that where quite different. This process of discovery prompted me to consider the things we all have in common, the fundamentals of daily life. This consideration was the catalyst of my collection.
