Anticipation of Spring

Handmade Sabahar Cotton Beach Towels

Our cotton scarves and cotton beach towels are handmade in Ethiopia by a talented weaving community who works together with the sustainable fashion brand Sabahar. Sabahar is an Ethiopian company that produces uniquely designed, handmade cotton and silk textiles. Founded by Kathy Marshall in 2004, the company wants to preserve and celebrate Ethiopia’s rich weaving tradition and creates respectful and ethical work opportunities for the artisans with an emphasis on employment for women. Sabahar’s core values are sustainability, innovation and caring for each other. Artisans can apply their traditional weaving skills to modern designs and get access to the global market and therefore a reliable income for their families.

The weaving community mainly works with locally sourced cotton, but wool and silk are used as well. While the handmade wool scarf is something for colder days, the cotton scarf is a perfect fit for the first days of spring or summer. Used as a stola and combined with a summery dress, the cotton scarf accompanies you to your next garden party. The big beach towels handmade in Ethiopia are a must-have: They are both versatile and comfortable! Take them to a summer outing, a beach day or use them as an oversized scarf in a cold summer night.

When you spend your days in the gloomy days of winter instead, you can use the cotton beach towels to wrap yourself in them. Or use the big beach towels as a sauna towel or hammam towel: Who doesn't love a trip to the spa when the days are dark and cold? There are a thousand and one ways to use (and wear!) big beach towels from Ethiopia, and we are very excited for you to discover every single one of them.

The weaving, the texture, and the patterns are all incredibly precise and delicate and help make our big beach towels breathtaking pieces of craftsmanship. These cotton beach towels, wool scarves and cotton scarves are a testament to Sabahar in Ethiopia. Purchasing one supports their weaving community. Breezy, ethical and handmade. What are you waiting for?
